The development involved designing a community centre on a challenging 6000sq.m green site at the intersection of Apollo & Rosedale roads. In order to create a through site access and a suitable platform, a significant retaining wall was constructed along most of the southside 150m boundary. The 1350 sq.m building has been constructed using cost effective utilitarian elements including concrete floors and supporting structure, precast concrete wall units, lightweight concrete wall panels, prefinished aluminium cladding, prefinished aluminium joinery and prefinished metal roofing. All these components have been well integrated to give an overall cohesive form.
The facility was specifically designed by HSA for current uses including the generous main entry/foyer/hub [with cafe component] a 250 seat auditorium, a full gymnasium, children’s areas, meeting rooms and support offices as well as a 350 sq.m office area on the upper level. The whole facility has been planned with a focus toward the adjacent, enclosed, north facing courtyard and the users of the premises are delighted with the facilities. The building has been future proofed so that it can be suitably converted into an office building as needs change.
