The 4 storey support medical facility – Ascot Central, opposite Ascot Hospital includes, on the ground floor, 2 medical imaging centres which are directly aligned to Ascot Radiology services in the hospital – a project facilitated by HSA in the late 1990’s. In 2007, while this new building was in the midst of construction, HSA was approached to design a 440 sq.m medical imaging facility and an interconnected 220 sq.m medical consulting area.

Design constraints dictated the relocation of the proposed toilet area to the opposite side of the building and HSA assisted the building owner with the design. The initial focus for the space was the optimum location of the MRI unit so as to be accessible, workable and minimise the impact on adjacent areas. Due to the low height clearance, a 10mm steel free spanning shield had to be erected overhead and around the complete machine an independent copper lined enclosure constructed. HSA designed and documented all this work in conjunction with the equipment suppliers and operators.

The fitout features an attractive reception and waiting area which leads off, to the one side, into the ultrasound & mammography rooms [with a dedicated waiting area] and to the other, into the MRI, XRay, DEXA and administration areas. HSA facilitated the whole process in conjunction with the client, including all services, finishes, fittings, furnishings, signage, colours and fabrics. An emphasis on creating a less “clinical” environment has resulted in spaces that both work well and are pleasant.
