PET Facility
In 2010, AR requested HSA to manage the installation of a PET [positron emission tomography] facility in the remaining 240 sq.m space at Ascot Central. This machine is somewhat similar to a CT scanner but in addition, is able to more accurately scan using a small amount of radioactive material [tracer] which is injected into the patient and collects in organs and tissues. The design of this facility was obviously critical so as to offer the required levels of shielding as dictated by international law while maintaining a suitable aesthetic. An added element to the design complications involved the incorporation of the post fit steel structural support required to accommodate the 3 tonne machine located over a basement carpark.
